From Foundation to President: A Student Journey of Growth and Impact

Kani Ahmadpour is a recent BBA graduate with a specialisation in Digital Marketing and Small Business Start-Up. Starting her journey as a Foundation student in 2023, she describes the decision to join Curtin Dubai as a “pathway to success,” one that shaped not only her academic journey, but also her leadership, confidence, and long-term career goals.

“I didn’t just want a degree; I wanted to grow. Curtin gave me space to explore that through internships, Student Council, and mentoring sessions offered by the different departments.”

Kani’s time at Curtin began with the Foundation Program, where she gained the academic tools and discipline that helped her transition smoothly into university life.

“The Foundation Program gave me a head start. I understood how to structure assignments, manage deadlines, and think critically, things that made me feel more prepared and confident once I entered the BBA programme.”

As soon as she began her studies, Kani got involved. In her first trimester, she joined the Student Council as the Digital Media Coordinator, part of the Extended Council. With a clear vision and a strong work ethic, she climbed the ranks over the next few terms: becoming Communications Coordinator, then Vice President, and ultimately, the Student Council President.

“I started off unsure of what I was capable of. But every opportunity, whether it was hosting a workshop or leading a team, pushed me a little further.”

Her experience on the Council not only strengthened her leadership skills but gave her a unique platform to amplify student voices, work closely with different departments, and contribute to lasting initiatives on campus.

“Being part of the Council shaped how I communicate, solve problems, and lead under pressure. It teaches you how to think for others while growing into yourself. It’s more than just a title; it’s an opportunity to make real impact and build lasting friendships.”

Throughout her leadership journey, Kani balanced her academics with an internship at the Student Success Centre (SSC), where she developed and delivered academic resources, managed peer mentoring programs, and helped run student-led workshops. Her coursework in the BBA programme aligned closely with her practical experience, especially in areas like brand strategy, campaign planning, and entrepreneurial thinking.

“The BBA programme offered real-world, industry-relevant coursework. It didn’t feel like I was just studying for the sake of it; I was learning things I could apply directly in my internships and council roles.”

Kani credits much of her personal and professional development to the supportive environment on campus. The Student Success Centre, Careers Team, and Student Life worked hand-in-hand to provide her with academic help, networking opportunities, and leadership platforms.

“Curtin’s support services are truly personalised. From one-on-one consultations to career guidance and academic support, I never felt like I was navigating this experience alone.”

Now, as she prepares to take the next step in her journey, Kani carries with her more than just a degree.

“I’m leaving with more than a degree. I’m leaving with a story, and a network.”
